Flowering season is near… Check out the latest update on how things are looking at Hitchin Lavender!

The lavender might not quite be in flower yet, but the roses next to our Display Field are looking very beautiful indeed! It’s always a pleasure to pass them as we arrive at work each morning.

Roses near Display Field – 04/06/2024

Just like the roses, the farm is starting to look and smell very nice indeed. The Old Barn always provides a rustic reprieve, its farm shop well-stocked, and its coffee machines warming up in anticipation of many lattes and cappuccinos over the summer months. Out in the fields, flowering season grows ever-nearer, with many wildflowers already in bloom and several of our lavender varieties teetering on the edge of a gorgeous palette of purple.

We’re still unsure of our exact opening date as we continue to organise our logistics, but we should be able to confirm this next week. Do keep your eyes peeled!

How is the lavender looking?

It’s a similar situation to last week regarding the lavender. Our angustifolia varieties are on the verge of coming into flower, as shown below and in the header image of this post. The majority of the Main Field is still green, with the intermedia varieties expected to start flowering in around a month’s time.

How are the wildflowers and sunflowers looking?

As you can see in the third photo below, our sunflower seedlings are safely nestled under their mesh sheets for the time being. These are there to protect the seeds from hungry birds, and will be removed once the plants are established.

As for the wildflowers, the conservation area in the Main Field is filled with daisies, and there are a number of poppies dotted about. The main wildflower patch is yet to really get going, but we’re hopeful for some progress in this department in the coming weeks.

Other News and Views

There’s not much else to report just now. Next week, we’ll be excited to tell you about a new family-focused activity we’re putting in place on the farm, and which we’re currently in the process of finalising. Please do tune back in for that, and for confirmation of our opening date!

Thanks for reading, lavender fans. Back next week with another update!
