Lavender Digest (16/8/18)

Hello Hitchin Lavender fans!

This is a reminder to everyone that we are at the end of our season as we were last week.

We are recommending to anyone thinking of coming this season, especially if they are coming from any distance whatsoever, to consider leaving it until next year.

Two thirds of the field had already faded considerably with the rains a few weeks back. Though there is still a third of the field looking ok, the rains we are experiencing at the moment will have a negative effect on how the field will be looking.

And the sunflowers?

As mentioned in last weeks entry, the fields have a very brief window, therefore they have completely faded, I’m afraid.

We do have a well-stocked café, with lots of tasty treats available, so if you are looking for a different space to relax, then you could do worse than coming to our beautiful barn for some bevs.

As ever, do make sure to check on our Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, as we will update with pictures. You can always contact us directly, just so you can plan your trip.

Thanks for reading!

Lavender Digest (10/8/18 – 16/8/18)

Hello Hitchin Lavender fans!

Unfortunately, we are at the end of our season. We would like to thank everyone who has decided to come to us this year and to all the kind words via Tripadvisor, Google Review and directly to us on Facebook.

Here is a more complete rundown of how the field looks right now.

Next week (10/8/18 – 16/8/18)

We are recommending to anyone thinking of coming this season, especially if they are coming from any distance whatsoever, to consider leaving it until next year.

Lavender Digest (3/8/18)

Hello Hitchin Lavender fans!

We are at the beginning of the end our lavender season. There is still an awful lot to enjoy, but do make sure to stay tuned here, as we will be keeping you updated with everything Hitchin Lavender.

Next week (3/8/18 – 9/8/18)

The wet weather has affected the main body of the field.

Flowers that came into bloom in early July are starting to fade somewhat, so it is not quite the full effect that we have had previously. However, there is still a good third of the field that is still looking terrific, so we definitely have enough – for the time being – to satisfy all your lavender needs.

As to how the lavender looks from now on does depend on the weather. Again, make sure to check on this site before coming to avoid disappointment.

And the sunflowers?

Sunflowers are still looking great, but they have a fairly brief blooming window, so we would highly recommend coming as soon as possible. In total, they stay looking bonny for about 10-14 days. They came into bloom about a week ago now, so we do have a good week of flowers.

As ever, do make sure to check on our Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, as we will update with pictures. You can always contact us directly, just so you can plan your trip.

Tune in next week for more information on Hitchin Lavender!

Lavender Digest (26/7/18)

Hello Hitchin Lavender fans!

Apologies for not updating last week, had a technical error.

This is another instalment of our Lavender Digest, where we update you on all things Hitchin Lavender. Please make sure to share this with anyone thinking of coming – as we want to make sure that everyone knows what to expect when coming to us.

We are now in full flower!

Though we do have a quantity of scissors, we would highly recommend bringing your own. This weekend we anticipate to be at our absolute busiest, so, as we have had to in the past, we may be limiting scissors to one pair per group.

We are going to be busy this weekend, so do expect queuing.

Let’s begin the Hitchin Lavender Digest for a fuller rundown of what’s been going on at the farm.

Next week (26/7/18-2/8/18)

How will the lavender be looking?

We are now in peak bloom.

Our early lavender, which came into bloom mid/early June, is starting to look slightly past its absolute peak. The main body, however, with all of this beautiful sunny weather, is still looking terrific and will do for the next few weeks.

If you wanted to get the full effect, now is definitely a great time to come, but be sure to check on here or via our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter before coming to avoid disappointment, if you are looking to come in a few weeks time.

And the sunflowers?

We have been taken a little aback by how quickly the sunflowers are flowering.

They are now in bloom.

To avoid the crowds, we would highly recommend coming on a weekday, perhaps even on a Tuesday or Friday late night.

That’s it for this week. As ever make sure to check out our Facebook, Instagram or Twitter pages, for more updates throughout the week.

This is another instalment of our Lavender Digest, where we update you on all things Hitchin Lavender. Please make sure to share this with anyone thinking of coming – as we want to make sure that everyone knows what to expect when coming to us.

We are now in full flower!

What with all the hot weather that we’ve been having over the last few weeks, everything has been happening that bit quicker this season, so be sure to come on down within the next few weeks!

Let’s begin the Hitchin Lavender Digest for a fuller rundown of what’s been going on at the farm.

Next week (13/7/18-19/7/18)

How will the lavender be looking?

As you can see, we are now in peak bloom.

Our early lavender, which came into bloom mid/early June, is still looking wonderfully purple. The main body of the field has only just come into bloom, so is looking fresh and vibrant and is smelling wonderful. The early lavender is coming to the end of its flowering period and will be looking good for another week or so

If you wanted to get the full effect, now is definitely a great time to come.

And the sunflowers?

Two weeks for the sunflowers, we would suggest.

As ever, we cannot guarantee an exact date when it will be coming into bloom, so make sure to keep checking on our social media outlets Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or stay updated here with our Lavender Digest!

Hello Hitchin Lavender fans!

This is another instalment of our Lavender Digest, where we update you on all things Hitchin Lavender. Please make sure to share this with anyone thinking of coming – as we want to make sure that everyone knows what to expect when coming to us.

It has been an absolute scorcher this week, nothing but sunshine, which is fantastic news for the lavender – what with it being a Mediterranean plant.

Without further ado, here is the Hitchin Lavender Digest!

Next week (6/7/18-12/7/18)

How will the lavender be looking?

The lavender is very close to being in full bloom, but we are not quite at our full potential just yet. As mentioned in previous posts, our early lavender, which accounts for about a third of the field, has come into full bloom.

20180705_151631

We would anticipate that the lavender will be coming into bloom in 1 weeks time.

And the sunflowers?

It is still very difficult to predict when the sunflowers will be in bloom. Currently they are about a foot tall and resemble potato plants! We are hoping that they will be coming in around late July, but it is a little like predicting the weather, I’m afraid.

The weather has been absolutely stunning this week, which has been wonderful for the lavender and our wildflower patch. We may not be in peak bloom just yet for the lavender, but we are certainly are in peak bloom for our poppies.

You are welcome to pick these, as well as the lavender, so do come soon if you are hoping for some beautiful fresh flowers.

Next week (29/6/18-5/6/18)

How will the lavender be looking?

As alluded to before, the lavender has been really enjoying all of its sun bathing this week, so it really is speeding up the flowering process. Generally, the lavender comes into its fullest bloom in mid-July, but we do anticipate it all happening a little earlier this season. Even within the next week it may be almost at its best.

As always, keep checking on our Facebook or Instagram for more photos as to how the field is looking.

The sunflowers are not yet in bloom. It is slightly too early to tell when they will be ready, but we are anticipating to have them in mid-July/August.

Lavender Digest (07/06/2018)

Hello Hitchin Lavender fans!

This is another instalment of our Lavender Digest, where we update you on all things Hitchin Lavender. We have had a steady first week, meaning that we have had lots of time to weed and plant – which has been both satisfying and strenuous in equal measure.

Although we still don’t have much lavender to speak of yet, we still have an awful lot of new bits and bobs to spoil yourself with.

Here is a rundown of the lavender for this coming week!

Next week (8/6/18-14/6/18)

How will the lavender be looking?

We are getting ever closer to our first weekend for picking, but not quite yet. We do have purple patches in the field and we are getting close to our first lavenders being ready, but we do ask that no one picks the lavender just yet. We really want to give the lavender time to flower in full before the picking can begin.

Please check on our Hitchin Lavender Facebook page or on our Google profile to see whether we are allowing picking, before coming.

3.6.18
Taken 3/6/18

As with the last few weeks, we have delicious homemade cakes and an array of teas and coffees to try – not to mention our tasty comforting lunches.

And the sunflowers?

Similarly, the sunflowers are not yet in bloom. It is slightly too early to tell when they will be ready, but we are anticipating to have them in mid-July/August.

Events

We currently have a full workshop schedule, from knitting, to printing, to yoga for kids. Make sure to check on the following link for more information!

We are very much looking forward to our sold-out Barn Dance hoedown this Saturday and to having the first of our Sundown Cinema events on the field (tickets still available, follow link for more info.)
