It’s been a pleasure welcoming our first guests of the summer over the last few days. With plenty of sunshine for everyone to enjoy and fresh flowers springing up everywhere, it’s really starting to feel like summer!

Main Field – 18/06/2024
While this week has been a soft opening, with many of our usual facilities closed, we’re looking forward to opening our full range of outlets in the Main Field this weekend, with the gift shop and food trucks all reopening on Saturday. Excited to see many more of you then!
In the meantime, let’s take a look at how things are coming on at the farm.
How is the lavender looking?
The early-blooming lavenders continue to look very nice indeed. Many of these varieties are found in our Display Field, which, as you can see below, is becoming a gorgeous patchwork of purples, pinks, blues, and whites.

Meanwhile, the intermedia lavenders in of the Main Field are developing bit by bit. As you can see in the photos below, the lavender’s buds (known as calyxes) are fairly developed now and should start to produce their beautiful petals (known as corollas) in the next couple of weeks. Once this happens, we’ll be greeted by a sea of purple!

How are the wildflowers and sunflowers looking?
This week we removed the protective sheets covering our sunflower patch, and the sunflower saplings are absolutely loving their new-found freedom! They’ll soak up the sun over the next month or so and, before long, will start reaching for the sky!

There’s not much action in the wildflower patch as yet, but the conservation area is certainly picking up the slack. The daisies and foxgloves shown below might not last too long, but other flowers will replace them as the summer goes on.

More news coming your way next week, lavender fans!
