Peak bloom continues at Hitchin Lavender, with sunflowers not far away…

With sunny intervals and the temperature hovering at around mid-twenty degrees every day this week, it really is the perfect time to see our lavender field.

The lavender is in its absolute peak bloom, making for a true aromatic and photographic treat. Now’s the time to visit if you want to see the lavender at its absolute best.

The headline news on the sunflowers is that they’re expected within around a week. We’re very close now to see a beautiful mix of yellow and purple in the Main Field!

How is the lavender looking?

The lavender is still in full bloom and looking very vibrant and colourful. The main body of the field should be looking great for the next couple of weeks. Our angustifolia varieties are at the end of their flowering season now, so are not looking quite as purple as they were a few weeks ago. Generally speaking though, the sea of purple is still going strong!

How are the sunflowers and wildflowers looking?

The sunflowers are yet to flower, but they’re very close now. As you can see in the photos below, the heads are almost fully formed. We expect the sunflowers to be in bloom within a week!

The wildflower patch continues to look very pretty – there are a whole range of flowers in bloom currently, from cornflowers to poppies. Along with the new bees in our rocket hive, many animals are benefiting from these wild spaces. As the flowers soak up the sunshine, they provide food and shelter for a host of insects, which then become food for the main types of bird that visit us on the farm.
