It’s a good job lavender loves sunshine, because it has been HOT this week. Luckily, temperatures are due to cool a little ahead of the weekend, so it looks like it’s going to be a fab bank holiday weekend to visit Hitchin Lavender.
The exciting news is that the sunflowers are now in bloom as well as the lavender. It’s a perfect combo of purple and yellow, which is only available for one or two weeks a year.
If you want to see this fabulous natural spectacle, we’d recommend visiting us in the next week or so. Weekdays are always quieter than weekends, so if you’d prefer to avoid the crowds, try coming between Monday to Friday!
How is the lavender looking?
The main bulk of the lavender is still in full bloom! Now really is the ideal to come, especially if you want to see sunflowers (see below!) and lavender at the same time.
As you can see in the bottom-right photo below, we have begun harvesting our early-flowering angustifolia varieties. The flowering period for these is over now, so they aren’t looking especially purple anymore. This is the minority area of the Main Field, though, so we’ve begun harvesting them and drying out the flowers.

How are the sunflowers and wildflowers looking?
The sunflowers are now in flower! The first of our two sunflower patches has come into bloom beautifully, so it’s a great time to come if you want to see these yellow beauties!

The wildflowers are still going strong, despite the heat! They make for an excellent contrast to the yellow and purple patches around them, with tons of variation in their colour, shape, and size. The bees and butterflies are certainly enjoying them!
