If you’re familiar with our barn, you’re probably used to seeing a selection of tea, coffee and cakes on offer. However, this Thursday, we’ll be serving up an altogether different kind of refreshment, in the form of a spoken word event hosted by Will Coles, the founder and lead member of Shout or Whisper.
Based in Hitchin, Shout or Whisper is a group dedicated to celebrating everything about the spoken word – whether it be poetry, monologues, rap, excerpts from plays or anything performed aloud.
On Thursday night, the floor is open to anyone who fancies the chance to experiment live on stage. Don’t worry, it’s not such a big stage (compared to the Gordon Craig anyway) so hopefully its modest proportions, coupled with the intimate and informal setting of our barn, will help to inspire anyone tempted to try.
There’s no pressure for perfection, paired down performance or any sort of ‘greatness,’ only a willingness to receive friendly feedback from the assembled crowd.
If you’re someone who enjoys the company of creative people or someone interested in hearing local talent, please come along and support the diverse and dynamic talent that Hitchin has to offer.

Non-alcoholic refreshments will be provided but please feel free to bring your own drinks along.
