We are now open!

We saw lots of you on our opening day on Monday 27th and we are looking forward to welcoming many more of you over the coming weeks and months. In order to give you a clearer idea of what to expect at Hitchin Lavender this season, we want to fill you in on a few more details!

What to expect this season…

Lavender (naturally…)

With over 150 rows of lavender plants in our main field, amounting to over 25 miles of lavender to walk through, we’ve got you covered on this front. We started planting it in 2000, and we’ve been adding more since. We expect the lavender to begin blooming from mid-June onwards, after which you will be able to pick a bag to take away with you!

On our main field, you will find 10 different varieties of lavender, but in the smaller display field, we have almost 60! Keep an eye out for our angustifolia‘s on the left hand side of the field, which have a more condensed bush and a shorter stem, and our intermedia varieties in the middle, which have more spacious foliage and a longer stem!

The Sunflower Patch

Every year, we plant over 100,000 sunflower seeds in our main field and we hope to see most of them coming up and into bloom from the beginning of August! They’re a wonder to walk through when they are in full bloom and can be picked for 50p a stem!

Our wildflowers come into bloom at the beginning of June and offer a beautiful contrast to the consistent rows of purple, with their brilliant streaks of colour and patterned flowers. But they’re not just pretty, they also provide excellent groundcover for wildlife, whether it’s a nesting space for pheasants or a safe place to hide for hares! We’ve got all sorts of fun flowers to see, with some very exciting names too…

Plenty for kids to do!

This year, we’ve made sure that there’s even more fun for our younger visitors! Joining the fortress play area and the purple tractor (already firm favourites) are Barney-Bee and the Lavender Gang, who feature on a range of new colouring-in and activity sheets at the farm! We also currently have a kids’ play area at the back of our barn with colouring and play opportunities aplenty. The area will be in place until around July, when we tend to get busier for the season.

What’s on

fullsizeoutput_46eNational Children’s Gardening Week

In celebration of this wonderful week, we’re giving away free sunflower kits in the barn over half term. Swing by to pick up yours and enter into our competition for growing the tallest sunflower! We will be announcing the winners around the end of August, so get growing!

ABBA Revival

Our much-anticipated ABBA tribute night is now just around the corner. Unfortunately the event is now sold out, but we look forward to welcoming those of you who got a ticket. We’re beyond excited for this night of non-stop hits and we can’t wait to meet lots of you on the dancefloor there too!

IckleDub PushWe’re very excited to be hosting the classic car and bike meet, IckleDub, at Hitchin Lavender. The meet will be making its second outing at the farm, bringing with it a fantastic festival atmosphere. There’ll be a spectacular show, live music, street food, a fully licenced bar and plenty more!

We are incredibly proud to be supporting Team Super Seraph for this event, to whom all proceeds will be going! They recently achieved their fundraising goal for Seraph’s Neuroblastoma treatment but there is still every need to support them as they deal with the awful illness.

Pig, Swig and Jig!

Last but certainly not least is our annual barn dance on June 8th! A few tickets are still available to be snapped up. Don’t delay to avoid disappointment!

Here’s a lovely little ditty from the Brookfield Band, who will be playing for us at the event!

A warm welcome from all of us…

Lastly, we just want to say how much we are looking forward to this summer season. We’ve been working hard throughout the winter to try and deliver the best service and experience that Hitchin Lavender can offer. We are excited to see lots of familiar faces over the summer and we can’t wait to meet some new ones too. Whether you are coming from near or far, we want you to have a brilliant time at the farm and you are always very welcome.
