It’s your regular Hitchin Lavender update and this week we have exciting news…

How is the lavender looking?

DSCF7323-Edit

Simply sublime! We are now in full bloom! The first seven rows have a voluptuous bounty of flowering angustifolias that have come out in beautiful gradations of pink and purple. Likewise, the grosso plants that make up the majority of the field are now coming into their peak flower, meaning that the whole field is truly spectacular right now!

As many of you visit us to pick the lavender in the coming weeks, the field will begin to deteriorate with the amount of flowers that you take home with you. To see the field at its absolute best, the next two weeks will be the time to come!

How are the wildflowers looking?

As we predicted, the wildflowers are fading now. As you can see from the pictures, there are still some lovely streaks of colour to be seen, but they are best early on in the day before the heat sets in.

If you want to see wildflowers, they are still around but we would recommend arriving at the field early to ensure you get a good view of them!

How are the sunflowers looking?

Still no sunflowers yet. We’re waiting as avidly as you are but keep your eyes peeled over the next few weeks for further signs of growth!

If we get a little more time this week, we will try and get a picture of the sunflower patch for you too! As you can imagine, we are rather busy with everything else at the moment though.

This week’s news and views…

You already know the biggest news from this week, but do keep an eye out for the newest member of our little family of buildings up in the main field, which will be open for the first time this weekend! Our Shepherd’s Hut will be serving waffles, ice cream and drinks for you to enjoy right in front of the lavender.

Also, don’t forget about our late night openings on Tuesdays and Fridays! We grabbed this photo a couple of weeks ago, so imagine what kind of views you’ll be able to get now that the lavender is in peak season!
